Bluesky Follow Actions - User Guide

Welcome! This guide explains how to use the "Bluesky Follow Actions" Chrome extension to automate follow and unfollow tasks on the Bluesky social platform.

Important: For the Bluesky Follow Actions Google Chrome extension to work correctly, your Bluesky account's interface needs to be set to English.

Please follow these steps: Settings -> Languages -> App Language -> English

Installation (from Chrome Web Store)

Visit the official Chrome Web Store page for the extension here using your Google Chrome browser.
Click the "Add to Chrome" button.
Your browser might ask for permission confirmation. Click "Add extension" to proceed.
Once installed, the extension's icon (resembling a blue butterfly) should appear in your Chrome toolbar (top right). If not, click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions), find "Bluesky Follow Actions" in the list, and click the pin icon next to it to keep it visible.

License Activation

A valid license key is required for unlimited use of the extension's features.

Click the Bluesky Follow Actions icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the popup window.
If you don't have an active license, you'll see the "Activate Full Version" section.
Enter your purchased license key into the "License Key" field.
Click the "Activate" button.
The extension will securely contact the validation server to verify your key. Please ensure you have an active internet connection.
Successful Activation: You'll see a green status message "Extension is active." along with your license validity date. The activation section will disappear, and the main action buttons will be ready to use.
Failed Activation: You'll see a red error message (invalid key, expired, server error, etc.). Please double-check your key or contact support as indicated below.

Daily Free Trial

If you don't have an active license, you can still try the extension with daily limits:

Follow Limit: Up to 50 batch follows per day.
Unfollow Limit: Up to 50 batch unfollows (of non-followers) per day.
You can see your remaining daily trial actions in the "Daily Free Trial" section within the popup window.
These limits reset automatically every day (usually at midnight based on your system time).
Once a limit is reached, you cannot perform that action for the rest of the day. Activate with a license key for unlimited use.

Using the Features

With an active license or available trial actions, you can use the following features:

Batch Follow

Navigate to a Bluesky page listing users you want to follow (e.g., a user's "Followers" list, search results, or a custom feed/list).
Click the extension icon in your toolbar.
Click the "Batch Follow" button.
A prompt will ask how many users you wish to follow. (In trial mode, your remaining limit will be suggested and enforced). Enter your desired number and click "OK".
The extension will begin searching for "Follow" buttons on the page, clicking them, and automatically scrolling down to find more until your target number is reached or no more suitable buttons are found.
Monitor the progress (users followed, target remaining) via the status messages in the popup window.

Batch Unfollow Non-Followers

IMPORTANT: Navigate to your own profile's "Following" list on Bluesky. This feature will not work correctly on other pages.
Click the extension icon in your toolbar.
Click the "Batch Unfollow Non-Followers" button.
A prompt will ask for the maximum number of users you want to unfollow. (In trial mode, your remaining limit will be suggested and enforced). Enter the number and click "OK".
The extension will scan your "Following" list, identify users who do NOT have the "Follows you" badge on their profile card within that list, and click their "Unfollow" button. It will scroll down automatically and continue until your target number is reached or no more eligible users are found.
Monitor the progress via the status messages in the popup window.

Deactivating the License

If you need to remove your active license from the extension:

Open the extension popup.
Click the "Deactivate License" button.
Confirm the action in the dialog box.
Your license information will be removed from local storage, and the extension will revert to trial mode / activation screen. You will need to reactivate with your key to use the full version again.

Important Notes & Tips

Use Responsibly: Avoid performing batch actions excessively or with extremely high numbers. Bluesky likely has usage limits, and aggressive automation could lead to account restrictions (Please read the Disclaimer below).
Keep Tab Open: It's recommended to keep the Bluesky tab open and active while a batch process is running.
One Action at a Time: Do not initiate another batch action while one is already in progress.
Interface Changes: The Bluesky website interface may change over time. If the extension stops working correctly (e.g., can't find buttons), it might be due to these changes. Please contact support if this happens.
Updates: Extension updates are delivered automatically through the Chrome Web Store.

This Chrome extension ("Bluesky Follow Actions") is designed to save you time by automating repetitive actions such as following and unfollowing on the Bluesky platform. However, the use of such automation tools may involve certain risks:

Platform Limits and Rules: Social media platforms like Bluesky have their own terms of service, policies, and technical limits regarding API usage, action frequency (rate limits), and automation. These limits can be changed by the platform at any time without notice.
Risk of Aggressive Use: Using the extension too frequently, with excessively high numbers, or in a manner that deviates significantly from normal user behaviour might be detected by Bluesky's automated systems as "spam" or "suspicious activity."
Potential Consequences: Exceeding platform limits or being flagged for suspicious activity could lead to undesirable consequences for your account. These may include temporary action restrictions (unable to follow/unfollow), temporary account suspension, or, in the worst-case scenario, permanent account termination.
User Responsibility: The use of this extension is entirely at your own risk. The developer cannot be held responsible for any restrictions, suspensions, or termination of your Bluesky account that may result from your use of this extension. You are solely responsible for how you use the tool and its consequences.
Recommended Usage: It is strongly recommended to use the extension cautiously and moderately. Respect Bluesky's daily action limits (if known). Instead of performing actions on very large numbers at once, consider processing smaller batches intermittently. While the random delays implemented in the extension help mitigate risk, they do not eliminate it entirely.
